Giving back is a core value of Atlantic Solutions in Somerset, NJ. So we can’t say that we’re surprised that our president has decided to volunteer his time as a “Big Brother” for the Big Brothers and Big Sisters (BBBS) of New York City. We can say, though, that we’re so impressed and proud to have a leader who has made this a priority in his very busy life.
BBBS has expressed that one of their biggest challenges at the moment is closing the gap between the number boys on their waitlist and the pool of male volunteers. Thankfully, our president is stepping up to the plate! He shared, “There are a lot of kids who don’t have that person to look up to. I’m the man I am today in part because of my dad.”
This is an activity that our president and his wife will be doing together, and both are excited to have the opportunity to support some great kids. They started the journey with BBBS on November 9th in Brooklyn at an orientation program. They went over the history of the program, shared the success stories of their kids, and addressed the steps to officially get going. Our president learned that it takes two to three months for the background checks and matching process to take place before a Big Brother or Big Sister can begin mentoring a child. While, of course, our president is anxious to get going, he is thankful to have the opportunity to mentor a child in need.
Did you know that in New York City there are over 500,000 children living at or below the poverty level? All of us at Atlantic Solutions would like to encourage anyone reading this to consider taking part in the Big Brothers and Big Sisters program as well.
Leading the youth mentoring movement since 1904, the BBBS mission is to give children who face adversity the opportunity to build a relationship with a great mentor. The results of the program are impressive, to say the least. We learned that 96% of “Littles” who graduated from high school were accepted into college.
We will keep you updated on our president and his wife’s journey with Big Brothers Big Sisters of NYC, so be sure to stay tuned! You can connect with Atlantic Solutions on Linked In here!
